Here are some of mine:
I will NEVER......
Say "because I said so"
Swat at a little hand
Consider a safety harness a GOOD thing.
Feed my toddler French fries or fast food of any kind.
I am extremely well educated but the only thing I know with absolute certainty is that I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR OTHER PEOPLE. I do not even know what is best for me. I make my choices using current research as my guide, but research changes every day. I cannot guarantee that what I am doing is actually the best. For the gray areas in life I rely on my own instincts, as does every mother.
The basic assumption on here seems to be that ANYONE given the same information will make the exact same choice. This is patently untrue. People, even with identical information, will make vastly different choices based on their own lives and circumstances. This does not make them bad people. We all want what is best for our children. We want to see them grow and thrive.
We are all going to make mistakes but our children will survive. We can only influence them, we are not in control. We need to relax and accept that we are human and so is everyone else on this app.
In closing here is my parenting philosophy:
My job is to raise my children to the best of my ability, but ultimately the only things I NEED to do are
1) get them to adulthood alive
2) Make sure they have the tools to be functional, healthy adults
3) Love them
All the rest is icing on the cake.
I believe that every last one of you wants what is best for their baby. Make your choices. I will support you. You are my sisters in arms. I need you to have my back, to lift me up when I fall on my face because I WILL. I will try my hardest to always have yours.
I don't care that this is a stupid rant. In fact, since I'm ranting anyway here are a few other things that have ticked me off today:
Rant: I HATE that my husband always has the TV on. It gives me a headache and we aren't even watching the stupid thing. It's not just "background noise" it's actual, irritating foreground NOISE, Buddy, so TURN IT OFF!
Both Rave and Rant: My toddler is taking a blissfully long nap today (Rave), but I just heard my cat on the baby monitor trying to wake him up. Solution: cat dragged out of toddler's room and tossed outside into the rain. Ha!
Rant: My brain. Where did it go? I used to have a very nice, functional memory. It's GONE. Milk in the cupboard, cereal in the fridge, missing car keys, you name it I've managed to forget and/or misplace it. Grrrrr
Rave: My life. I just realized that if this is all that I have to b*tch about I'm doing pretty well and I should shut up and get on with my day.
