IUI vs ICI costs Ohio

Hey girls, still trying to figure out options and just found out about ICI, and want an idea of comparing costs. Anybody know some different prices in Ohio or maybe surrounding areas? My insurance doesn't cover infertility, so I really need to prepare the best I can. Thanks!

are you intending to use the sperm for an IVF cycle, or just insemination?

The difference in cost is because less work goes into preparing and freezing ICI samples. They have just as much, if not more, sperm per vial BUT, if you are using it for insemination it has to be washed first which will decrease the final yield and also this extra wash step charged by the clinic could cost you the difference between ICI and IUI sperm.

If you're using it for IVF, both samples would be prepped and washed the same way regardless of type, so you could safely save yourself some money.

This is my advice as an embryologist, but of course it could depend on the particular protocols of the clinic you are with. You should ask them if it matters what type.

Definitely NOT ivf. I'm thinking to try IUI/ici and see how those work. Based on cost, I'd rather try those 15 times, then try ivf once. I still have to see a second specialist, but I want to go in this time armed with information.

I go to a fertility specialist in Columbus and it costs me out of pocket $350 for a iui. Where do you live in Ohio?

I hope this helps. My insurance covers quite a bit but not the iui.

Thanks Angie. I live up near Cedar Point, but I've looked into going to Columbus or other areas. My specialist now is in Toledo and I didn't care for him. I've also heard that ICI is even cheaper than IUI, but at those prices I find that hard to believe!

I go to the Ohio Reproductive Clinic and my doctor there is awesome. Sometimes the drive becomes too much because of the insane gas prices but the end result will be worth the drive. I live a hour north of Columbus and about a hour and 40 minutes from Cedar Point.

I called them recently and they were very helpful and nice, but I don't know if I want to commit to a 2 hour drive every time we need to do something.

I understand. Its alot to commit to when living further away. Some weeks because I was using injectibles and had to be monitered I would go in at least 2 times. I pray you find somewhere that works for you.

Thanks Angie. I'll see what my regular doc says at my appt next month and between him and everybody's recommendations I think we'll come up with something. I'm just scared that I'm wrong about everything and they are going to tell me it's pointless to even try IUI. I really hope that's not the case.
