Cultured vs. Pasteurized?

What's the difference between cheese that has been cultured vs pasteurized? I have a friend who says that I can't have cheese that has only been cultured. Is this true?

Yes, you should not eat cultured cheese. Pasteurization is a process that preserves foods so that they won't go bad. For example if you milked a cow and drank the milk right from the cow it's cultured. If you buy the milk from the store it has been pasteurized.

Cheddar cheese = pasteurized
Blue Cheese = cultured
If you do eat any cultured cheese and your body can't fight the bad bacteria it can go to the baby's blood stream. I say just be cautious and don't try new cheeses that you aren't familiar with until after birth. I still eat cultured blue cheese, like one teaspoon in a salad every other week just in case.
