Smiley baby??!!
My little boy Roman keeps doing what looks like smiling-see piccie. I asked mw and she said it's genuine smiles and not wind as he wouldn't be smiling with wind apparently. So happy that he's happy and just wanted to share an early morning smile with all you mummies. What a wonderful job we have and how lucky we all are to have our lo's to keep us smiling too. Feel so blessed!! Xx xX

Morning ladies, here's my home birth story of Holden who arrived on Saturday morning, one day early.
I was at my mums for her birthday until about 10.30pm, grumbling at her that her sofa cushions were too thin and giving me backache. Little did I know I was in early labour. Oh was at pub with friends so I picked him up on way home. At home watched tv for a bit realising had bit of backache. Went to bed and couldnt get comfy. This was about 11.30pm ish everytime I sat or laid on bed, back hurt and I needed loo, which is downstairs! After repeating this many times and noticing that backpain was coming in waves i thought maybe it was labour. Was surprised it was all backpain not tummy. I sat on birth ball but uncomfy, so spent time pacing around, cat looking at me like I was a nutter, I decided to wake oh about 1.30 am and tell him I think I'm in labour.
He timed my back pain contractions and I think they were lasting about a minute and were only a couple of minutes apart. I was shocked, thought they were meant be about 20 mins apart. I planned to have home water birth so rang midwife who was coming to assess me.
Back pains getting more intense . I'd been lent a tens machine on Monday and hadn't yet read instructions. Midwife sorted it out and it helped distract from the contractions. Midwife did internal and confirmed I was 4cm dialated. Had my show during internal exam. Waters still intact. It's a bit blurry from then onwards. Pains gradually increased, second midwife arrived. I was in the bath at that point but not comfy as my back ached, gas and air had arrived! It made me go a bit fuzzy at first but I ended up using it as a focus to get me through each contraction. After a while I'd had enough in bath and spent the rest of my labour butt naked in the lounge. We had mislaid the pump for the pool so didn't get to use it. I was past caring anyway. I used about four canisters of gas and air. 2nd inspection 2hrs after 1st i was 8cm. Can't remember much else but trying to get baby in position by sitting upright on loo and then back to the sofa to deliver.
He was finally born after lots of pushing at 6.41am about 7 or 8 hours since backache started.
He was grunting not crying and was cold. They called ambulance for him to get him checked out. Oh and Holden went in ambulance one while I delivered placenta. I followed about half hour later.
His oxygen levels in his blood were lower than they'd like so they put him in special care to warm him up and give him oxygen. He's on antibiotics and is on glucose, but he's had a good first night and should be able to come home tuesday
Sorry for long story, don't let it put you off home birth was nice to be in my own environment rather than hospital room.

Isobels birth story:
Exactly a week ago today I went in to hospital to be induced as the baby was 14 days overdue. They checked my cervix and it wasn't in a favourable position and baby was also back to back, they gave me the propesse pessery and to expect nothing to happen and I'd probably need another after 24 hrs which still might not work so then would need a drip induction, at this point I sent my OH home to get my laptop so I could work on my editing, .... when he came back (about 3 hours after first pessery) I was 3cm and getting full labour strength contractions 1 min apart an hour later I was 5cm, needless to say I didn't get any editing done! They broke my waters and then put me on a hormone drip nothing much happened forawhile, apart from a ridiculous amount of pain, I hadn't expected the contractions to be so intense so soon, I'd assumed they'd build up like a natural labour, anyway got to evening and still not much profess, i'd got to 8cm and then the contractions slowed down, we were told it would probably be the next morning before delivery, my OH went to get some food and typically after he left we had complications, the babies heart rate dropped, for 6 minutes they couldn't get it above 60 bpm, I had a consultant, registrar, anaesthetist, surgeon and three midwives in my room trying to decide what to do, and i heard them organise resus to be in theatre waiting, it was their urgency that really worried me, I was given a epidural and prepped for surgery when thankfully her heartrate slowly came back up, though was irregular, my OH finally made it back to find Me in tears and on oxygen, I've never been so scared (for my baby) in my life. They figured it was the hormone drip slowing down her heart so they turned it off, but that messed up the contractions and she wouldn't turn, they kept trying small dosages but it kept slowing her heart even more, they decided they needed to get her out ASAP do was taken to theatre for a forcep delivery and if that didn't work due to her head position then it would have been a CSection, at that point all I wanted was her here and safe. I needed a episiotomy and luckily the forceps worked, and Isobel Rose was born at 3:47am weighing 7lbs7.5 and is just beyond perfect. I had to stay in theatre for an hour whilst they stitched me but it was all totally worth it, she's amazing x

I need some opinions ladies.
I was due Sunday and they've offered me a sweep on Thursday, so 40+4 and an induction date of September 2nd.
As much as I'm happy for her to come soon, I actually don't mind waiting for a bit. Quite like the idea of her being born in September rather than August, but I don't want her to be induced, I want her to choose her own date ideally.
So I really don't know whether to have a sweep on thursday or not, I'm not really in a rush, don't really want a sweep anyway (for uncomfortable and embarrassment reasons lol,) but don't want her to be induced with all the hormone crap and drugs.
What are everyone's views of sweeps? Is it worth trying to kickstart things to avoid being induced? Or shall I see if I can get a sweep later on? (like the 1st lol,)
I just can't decide. :(
Help. X
